KNX - The Worldwide Open Standard ...
Intelligent Building Control – Peaces of Mind by KNX
What is KNX …?
KNX is a Building Management System for all kinds of applications including, the office, industrial factories, schools & universities, libraries & retail parks, residential properties, airports … the list is almost endless.
Building Management Systems (BMS) encompasses a wide variety of technologies under one roof; heating & lighting, computer networks, conference facilities, audio-visual media, communications and security to name but a few.
The key to a BMS is being able to communicate to all the components in an application and in many cases, allowing these components to work together in an efficient, cost and time saving manner. KNX is one system that does just that.
KNX is different than other BMS’ as the standard for the communication between, for example, lighting and a security system, is open source and therefore can and is used by the suppliers of KNX equipment. This provides a flexible, interoperable control system for equipment provided by different manufacturers.
| The KNX is truly global ... |
International Standard Approvals include:
- International Standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3)
- European Standard (CENELEC EN 50090 and CEN EN 13321-1)
- Chinese Standard (GB/Z 20965)

|
Any products carrying the KNX logo guarantees their product can be combined with other components bearing the same logo – even if it is from a different manufacturer.
Due to the wide range of KNX options and the ability of the components to talk seamlessly to each other, KNX intelligent control systems have been used in a wide variety of applications, many high profile;
- The British Library
- BBC
- Stockholm Stock Exchange
- Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 & Beijing Airport Terminal 3
- The Olympic Stadia (China’s ‘Bird Nest’ and ‘Water Cube’ complexes)
- Harrods of London
KNX is also suitable for hotels and homes and as an assistive technology in care homes.
